In a downtown Avon Park bakery, 'Brown-N-Serve  Rolls' were discovered by accident in 1949. Baker Joe Gregor, a former GI, had just put in a batch of rolls to bake. Just then, the fire siren went off. Gregor, a volunteer fireman, quickly shut off the oven and dashed off. He returned, expecting to find his rolls ruined. Instead, they were raised and partially baked. He then baked them for seven minutes and thus brown 'n serve rolls were born. Later, he and his partner, Julius Jacobsen, sold the "secret" process to General Mills. The rest is baking history.
